From Plank Road Publishingby Teresa Jennings
This haunting Renaissance-flavored piece evokes a time long ago, yet familiar still. We see the snow, feel the cold, smell the fire. We easily imagine the ambiance of winter. That is part of the charm of this song. But the real appeal comes from singing: It is positively a joy to sing.
Vocally, it works in unison, with two parts only, or with all three parts, as you prefer. The third part is written in a compromise range for lower, changing, and changed voices. In addition to the usual full performance and instrumental tracks, the kit includes rehearsal tracks for each part, an a cappella version, a two-part version, and an instrumental track without recorder (in case you want your students to play). The kit also includes a student reproducible article on the lute, an instrument which features prominently in the recording. (from Music K-8, Vol. 18, No. 3)
