I Can't Wait

by Mike Wilson

What do you want to be when you grow up? This is one of life's most frequently posed questions to youngsters. Well, it's never too early to start thinking about it, and many seem to have it figured out at a very young age. "I Can't Wait" is a song to get the thought process started. With "career days" and "job shadow" programs becoming very popular, this song is a perfect fit.

A pop rock rhythm section with an electric piano and slide guitar provide the backbeat to this "hooky" unison melody that is easier to sing than it may look. Feel free to use a pop-style singing approach as our singers did, observing the blue notes and scoops. Hand claps make the presentation more engaging, and a little movement wouldn't hurt either.

Lyrically, several vocational options are presented in the verses, and a bridge gives your singers a chance to "solo up" and declare their own chosen professions. The vocational choices you hear on the recording are based on our studio singers' personal aspirations. You can use ours but, of course, it would be better to have your singers share their own. On top of the singing, imagine the discussion you could spark along with reinforcing the idea that a good education makes for good preparation.
