This festive tune is perhaps the best known Hanukkah song. Adapted from the old Yiddish folk song "Y'mey Hanukkah," it can be found arranged in many different styles and with many different variations of lyrics. In our version, we have mixed in a little folk and a little klezmer at a moderate tempo. The recording features several prominent acoustic instruments including guitar, string bass, and mandolin. The music lends itself well to movement and you might also want to use part of the second verse to dance a bit. Your students might want to learn the horah. In any case, this song is a wonderful addition to any holiday or winter program. (from Music K-8, Vol. 14, No. 2)
