I created a "Recorder Karate Hall of Fame" bulletin board. I lined with construction paper all of the belt colors in a row. As students earn their belt, they get to sign their name on the color of paper of the belt they earned. This is the first year I have implemented the karate program, and the "Hall of Fame" board attracts a lot of questions about the program from teachers and parents. I also made a deal with all of my classes: the first class in which 100% of the students have all earned their white belt gets to remove their shoes for one class period (since in real karate they perform shoeless!). This may be a "stinky" move on my part, but it has been fun motivation for the kids.
