Kelly, you are so lucky to have them by themselves! My campus has an autism classroom, but because of scheduling issues, they come all together with a 4-th grade class. I would MUCH prefer to teach them separately simply because of the mental and emotional age differences.
Teach the SAME THING for a month. Make up a plan such as
1. Hello song
2. Fingerplays
3. Instrument time
4. Folk song or story song
5. Movement song (even if it's just a lullaby where they can rock in their chairs)
6. Good-bye song
and then stay the same for a month. These kids thrive on predictability. After a month or six weeks, change ONE thing. Maybe change the instrument that you are using, but keep the same instrument song. Try changing the movement song -- a different move to the same song, or a different song altogether. Change the folk song/story song. I personally would only change one song per month.
Hope this helps, and I wish you (and all who read this) a very happy and productive school year!

Subject: [MK8] Resources/ ideas needed
Good afternoon,
I have a class of self contained special needs children that will come to
music for 30 minutes 2x a week. I am in need of resources and ideas.
Most of them are non-verbal. Some are in wheelchairs. This is a new
experience having them by themselves.
Thank you,
Kelly in Georgia
