Hi Susan (and List),

You have a couple of options here:
1. Make a back up copy of the cassettes to CD or MP3 format. This is
legal as long as the CDs/MP3s stay with the school, since it is
ownership of the printed music that conveys the rights to use the
music in classrooms or for performances. (From your post, it sounded
like the school owned the magazines.)

2. Purchase replacement CDs for the cassettes. Replacement CDs are
$10.95 each (not the full $15.95), so the total to replace the
cassettes would be $164.25 (plus shipping) instead of the $240 you
originally calculated. Again, these CDs would need to stay with the
printed music. You can call our Customer Service Team at
1-800-437-0832 and someone can help you with that order.

Just a reminder to everyone: All CDRs and CDs have a shelf life of
about 7-10 years (sometimes more, sometimes less; not just PRP
products, ALL CDRs and CDs). You need to have a back up of the files
in another format and/or location for safekeeping.

Below, for anyone that is interested, is our copyright blurb from the
magazine:
These are our policies:
* If you are a subscriber, you have our permission to reproduce all
of the music and other reproducibles in Music K-8 for use with your
students, even if you teach in more than one school. If you have
purchased the Student Reproducible Parts, this also applies to them.
(It should be noted, however, that in order to buy and use these
parts, as well as our recordings, one must already own the
commensurate issue of the magazine.)
* If one school has two or more teachers, one subscription may be
shared in that one school only.
* If you have access to Music K-8 through a library or other
facility, you *DO NOT* have permission to reproduce any of the
materials unless you are the only one using that subscription at that
library or facility.
* CDs may not be duplicated for anyone other than the subscriber. We
understand that some subscribers likes to make "safety back-up
copies" of their CDs, and we have no problem with that. We encourage
back-ups. You never know when one will break or grow feet and walk
away. However, giving a copy of the CD to a fellow teacher, student,
parent, friend, or anyone else is illegal.
* Posting copies of recordings, lyrics, or printed music to your web
site is an illegal use of copyrighted materials. If you have special
reasons for wanting to use these items online, please write us for
permission:
http://www.musick8.com/html/permissions.php
By the same token, permission to duplicate CDs in special
circumstances can be obtained by writing to us. We are very generous
and understanding in this regard. Otherwise, our materials are
readily for sale to anyone who wishes to have them. Our toll-free
number is 1-800-437-0832 and our secure online store address is:
http://www.musick8.com
And remember that student can buy most of our songs as MP3s at a very
reasonable price at:
http://www.musick8kids.com/

We sincerely believe that our policies are fair and just. We give a
great deal of time, effort, energy, and emotion to Music K-8. All we
ask for in return is a reasonable degree of respect for our
livelihood. Thanks!
