I have 11 days left. We don't have a teacher day at the end of the
semester. And by the end of the last day I need to have my room
completely pack to move at my little school that is closing. I also
need to have most of my cabinets cleaned out at my main school which
is adding the 6 classes from the little school. Adding these extra
classes crowds us so much that I'll lose my room to a 2nd grade class
for a few years. That building also has to be done moving by the end
of the day on June 3.

However, I have no place to put the stuff from either rooms! I keep
getting the "we'll take care of it" answer when asking when and if
I'll get shelves in a storage room off the cafeteria where I'll be
teaching. And still don't know how I'm going to store my Orff
instruments and rolling tables. ( I had to get rid of the boxes due to
limited storage space years ago. Never anticipated having to box most
of them up for a few years.) I'm starting to really get anxious about
how this will work out. And I forgot to mention that the teacher who
will be in my room wants to start moving in soon. They will start
cleaning carpets on June 4th and want everything out of the room and
in the hallways.

I never pack up until after school is out! I usually teach up to the
last day, although this year we don't have specials the last day after
the awards program in the morning. I always come back in and pack in
the quiet after school is out until they need to clean my room. I get
much more done that way. I guess the up side of having it done by
June 4 is that I'll have more early summer to myself to figure out how
to teach in the cafeteria and in classrooms without sacrificing too
much of my program.

I have been throwing stuff away and cleaned out my desk at the closing
school today. But I don't think I can box a lot of things up until I
know what size shelves I'll be storing stuff on. I'd hate to have to
re-box it if the boxes don't fit! that is if I'll have shelves and
won't have to just stack up boxes. I did invest $$ in sturdy boxes
with lids so things can be kept dust free and not get smashed like
they would in boxes with flaps. Anyone have any moving advice? I've
changes rooms around 16 times in the past 32 years at these 2
buildings but have never had to do this. It really feels awful! I
really sympathize with those of you who have to pack up and leave your
job, too!
