Thanks Meredith for the link. Just today I saw a sign in the drugstore I
went to for an antibiotic (allergy and asthma morphed into a bronchial
infection) that they sold Silly Bandz. Now I'm enlightened!! At least they
are not ridiculously expensive.

Subject: [MK8] (NMR) silly bandz?
I was wondering how long it was going to be before I would have to start
confiscating "silly bandz" from my students. Today it happened in a third
grade class. Have y'all seen these colorful rubberband-like bracelets that
come in shapes? They are apparently the newest fad.
http://www.sillybandz.com/ If the kids would keep them on their wrists
there wouldn't be a problem.
Today I had a very nice discussion with that third grade class that had the
big problem within one of the teams during my observation this past Friday.
Many students shared ideas on how to work out a difficulty like this if it
ever came up again. They showed a lot of maturity with their ideas on
working together better when we work in small groups to come up with a
pattern to play together or create something as a small group. I guess I
don't do this enough with them. While we were having this discussion, one
of the students laid her silly bandz on the floor and was playing with them
rather than joining or listening to our discussion. Incidently, this is the
same student who refused to participate LAST week. She's the "frequent
flyer" in the principal's office too. Last year she stole from me as well.
I have her silly bandz now.
