Come Ye Thankful People, Come

arr. Paul Jennings

This fine old hymn was written in the mid-1800s, and was what was known as a harvest hymn. In a more agrarian society, much more was made of the harvest. Paul tells us: I recall that growing up, this was commonly still sung in schools (yes, well after 1900). Today, though, I don't see it in many texts. I'm glad to bring it back into use with this new setting.

Our setting uses two of the most commonly sung verses over a rich orchestral setting. Ideal for Thanksgiving, it is also a fine way to have a cross curricular discussion about the harvest and how food production has changed throughout our history.
