Love The Summer

by Teresa Jennings/John Riggio

We made this lighthearted summer song super easy and singable so your kids could concentrate on more fun things, like dancing and performing! It's set in a '50s beach rock style and includes our very own "Beached Boys" in the background for your listening pleasure. If, however, you have your own singers who want to try the backgrounds, we have created an instrumental track that excludes them (so you can add them yourself), and a background vocal part to follow. These are on our web site. (See details following.)

The second time at measure 5, we have indicated "movement section." There's an alto sax solo that corresponds with this, lasting about seven bars or so. Let students do some classic rock 'n' roll dance moves, such as "The Twist," "The Swim," "The Frug," "The Watusi," etc. Or, let them create their own special moves and give it a name. How about "The Summer Slide" or "The Beach Bounce"? Let everyone move, or select a few to feature.

Speaking of performance - a setting for this song should be pretty easy to come by. Beach balls, colorful towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, sand buckets, and so on, are fast, simple, and effective.
