How I Love Thanksgiving Day

by Mike Wilson

Easy, fun, and short, "How I Love Thanksgiving Day" is a unison primary tune suitable in subject and difficulty level for your young students or choir.

It's in a light two-beat country bluegrass style. Can your kids identify the instruments on the recording? You'll hear guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, and acoustic bass. The feel is achieved by having the bass play the downbeats while the mandolin plays "chop chords" on the upbeats. The other instruments play fills in and around the melody vocal line.

Speaking of the vocal line, this one is very simple because it is scale-oriented. There are just a few intervals greater than a second. And the song form is A-B, then an exact repeat of A-B once more. See? Easy, fun, and short.

Of course, as this is a Thanksgiving song, maybe your kids can share some things for which they are thankful.
