Give With Your Heart

by Teresa Jennings

Every revue needs at least one gentle song to balance it. In this case, we decided to make it a song with a message. Especially in these times, a reminder of generosity, brotherhood, and good will is something we could all use. This song also provides you with the opportunity to include ukulele, guitar, and some optional percussion, if you wish. We have even suggested some movement with scarves, which are indicated on the music. Also optional, they would provide a lovely, flowing visual element to the song if you use them.

The song starts with a solo, which is optional, and which you could split into two as we did with our young soloists, Asa Huffman and Emery Allen. Part 2 is optional, too, but it's very easy. We have created an isolated rehearsal track for it though, just in case. We also offer a full performance version of the tune that does not use the solos at the beginning.

The song itself is quite simple and comfortable. And it's very singable. So much so, we encourage you to invite the audience to join in on the chorus the last time (during the coda). You can put the lyrics in the program, or project them onto a screen using our projectable lyrics (in PowerPoint® format). Have your kids sway gently from side to side with each measure and maybe the audience will, too.

All of the many extras mentioned here can be found on our web site except for the ukulele/guitar part which is actually included in this issue on pages 30-31.
