LOL! (Laugh Out Loud)

by Teresa Jennings

In case you didn't know, LOL is short for "laugh out loud." Which is exactly what we hope your students and audience have been doing! But now it's time to bring it all to a close with a fun-loving finale. If you hear this song and think that it reminds you of that old '70s classic, "YMCA," you would be right! Since this is also a letter song, we thought it would be fun to have a parody that could include the movements similar to "YMCA," only using "LOL" instead. There are other similarities, as you will hear when you listen through. But the main focus is on the chorus where the action occurs.

The movements we suggest are indicated above the music on the piano/vocal score. The "LOL" you see right at bar 17 means that performers make an L with their arms, then an O, then another L. For the L, the right arm goes straight up and the left one goes straight out to the side. For the O, both arms go up (or to the side if you prefer), bowing at the elbows. Hold the third L till the next line and the prompt to point to the audience. Continue along the same lines, adding the claps as indicated, too.

We're betting that once they've seen the chorus, your audience will be primed to jump in, too. By all means, let them. Turn around to face them and invite them to stand up, join in, and LOL!
