B A Rascally Robot

by Paul Jennings

For the first issue most years we try to bring you a cool new tune featuring either just B, or A and B, the first notes many teachers use in their recorder programs. (And remember that if you prefer to start with A and C, we have provided "Bella's Blues" earlier in this issue.)

Those rascally robots are celebrated in an energetic, mechanical rock tune that should be lots of fun for your beginning players. While the players are never asked to perform more than quarter notes and half notes, there are plenty of variations to keep them interested.

The accompaniment tracks are worth a listen, featuring full orchestra with a great rhythm section and an array of metallic percussion. And you will note an area at the end of the tune that asks your players to imitate robots. Their imaginations are all that are needed, though if they decide that movement is involved, be careful that they are not playing as that's a good way to hurt their mouths.

If you would like to follow the piano/recorder score for this tune, you can do it! Just download the free PDF from our web site.
