Recorder Explorations
From Plank Road Publishing
by Dan ThiemanMusical Adventures For Young Players
This collection for recorder is sure to spark your young players' imaginations! Most of the pieces in the collection include multiple recorder parts and optional notes that keep it very accessible for beginners, while a few of the pieces provide an exciting, slightly more challenging platform for your students to stretch and grow their skills a bit if they're feeling a dventurous. The seven uniquely-styled pieces include:
- Fanfare Celebration - This triumphant and stately fanfare has two recorder parts: a simpler recorder 1 part (G, A, B), and an optional recorder 2 part (D, A, B, C, and D'). Perfect for the start of any concert or important event!
- Quest For Low C - Arpeggiated strings and synths in the accompaniment steadily build throughout this piece, creating an epic and cinematic mood. Players focus on just low C.
- Before The Dawn - This beautiful modern orchestral piece mimics that special before-the-dawn feeling with a dreamy and somewhat mysterious sound. The recorder part uses low C (optional), D, E, G, A, and B.
- Sailing The Nile - With three different recorder parts, "Sailing The Nile" provides opportunities for players of all different skill levels. Recorder 1 has the widest variety of notes used: D, E, G, A, B, C, D', and E (high E optional); while recorder 2 uses only G and A. There is also an optional alto recorder part that uses G, A, C, D, E, and F. If you don't have all three parts covered, that's okay, just use one or two of any of the parts to suit your needs.
- Five Note Jam - Improvising for recorder? Why not! Let your players loosen up a little with this bluesy rock tune. There are two parts: soprano, and an optional alto part. Both parts use the notes G, A, C, D, and E, and the high E for soprano is optional if your players haven't learned that note yet.
- The Trieste Vessel - This programatic orchestral piece tells the story of the Trieste Vessel – a fascinating (and true!) deep sea adventure. Recorder 1 uses A, B, C, D, and E (high E is optional); recorder 2 is simpler and uses only G, A, B, and C; and alto recorder uses C, D, E, and F# (high F# is optional). You can use just one or two of the parts if you can't cover all three.
- Exploration AGE - "Exploration AGE" is an energetic symphonic rock tune with one recorder part. The recorder part is not complex, but your players will still have loads of fun exploring the notes low E, G, and A. The accompaniment utilizes an exciting blend of orchestra, rock band, and futuristic synths.
