When a kindergartner raises his/her hand, I ask if what s/he has to say has to do with music. If it doesn't, s/he has to wait to tell me after class (usually, s/he forgets by then). This normally stops the comments about birthdays and the dog having nine puppies on the couch! After the first couple of weeks, they are pretty well trained, and I don't have to ask that question every time I call on someone.
