After working on four-beat rhythms, we practice by playing the following game.

The class is divided into three teams facing the board. Each person must face the board and be quiet. Using our rhythm strips we learn from, I tap the rhythm on the back of last person in each line (I use a different pattern for each line, fingertips for notes, flat hand for rests.). Rhythms are silently passed forward with no repeats and no conference calls. The front student then notates the pattern on the board. Teams receive a point for correct rhythms. It is an amazingly quiet and fun game.
