Here is the flashlight choreography for "We Are The People Of The 21st Century" (from Music K-8, Vol. 10, No. 1, also available as a Singles Reproducible Kit):

  • At the beginning of the song, the stage is lit only moderately.
  • At measure 22, where the first solo starts, stage lights go off and flashlights are on. The flashlights illuminate the soloists from behind, creating a kind of glow that is really cool. (Because we kind of lost the soloists' faces, I used a single flashlight from the pit and shined it up on the soloists' faces, while they were illuminated from behind.) The flashlights do the same for all four soloists.
  • At measure 38, the stage lights turn back on, and the flashlights are not seen (they are pointed down).
  • On measure 55, the stage lights are off again, the flashlights on. The students slowly, slowly, slowly raise their lights from the floor up to the ceiling. They have four measures to get them on to the ceiling.
  • At measure 59, they are on the ceiling and make a "squiggle" movement, rapidly moving around the ceiling.
  • On measure 63, they have four measures to bring them slowly, slowly back down to ground level.
  • On measure 67, they suddenly shine the light on their own face from underneath, kind of like we used to do as kids to look ghostly! They keep the lights on their faces (and it looks great from off stage - all you see is a face in the darkness).
  • On measure 86 (around the world...), the kids make a circle with their lights, circling in a huge circle, slowly.
  • At measure 94, they point in unison to the right side of the auditorium, against the wall.
  • On measure 98, they point in unison to the left side of the auditorium, against the wall.
  • On measure 102, they point in unison directly out into the audience.
  • On measure 109, they point up towards the ceiling again slowly.
  • On measure 113, they shine their lights around the entire auditorium in random crossing movements.
  • On the very last beat, they point the flashlight straight down and switch it off. There is total darkness!

Cool effects. I hope someone can use it.
