Some of my first class activities include:

  • Play a familiar song on the piano, like "If You're Happy And You Know It," then sing it.
  • "This Is The Way We Come To School" (tune: Mulberry Bush)
  • 1st verse: This is the way we come to school (smile & patsch beat on legs)... at (name of school) school.
    2nd verse: Our teacher's name is ( )... at ( ) school.
    3rd verse: Her/his assistant's (or "helper's") name is ( )... at ( ) school.
    4th verse: The principal's name is ( ).
    5th verse: The music teacher is ( ).
    6th verse: This is the way we sing a song... at ( ) school.
  • ( ) Came To School Today (tune: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) (Mary) came to school today, we're so glad we'll shout "Hooray!"
  • (Tune: Way Down Yonder In The Paw Paw Patch) Where, oh where is dear little (Mary)... Now stand up ____ and take a bow!
  • (Tune: Are You Sleeping?)
  • Stand up (Mary), Stand up (Mary), (class echoes)
    Stand up (Michael), Stand up (Michael),...
    Reach up very high___, Reach up to the sky___,
    Now sit down and sing with us.
  • (Tune: The Farmer In The Dell)
1st verse: The girls stand up... in the kindergarten class.
2nd: The girls clap their hands... in the kindergarten class.
3rd: The girls walk away (from their seats)... in the kindergarten class.
4th: The girls walk back (to their seats)... in the kindergarten class.
Repeat with the boys. This helps them remember (hopefully) where they sit.
