Since we all end up with a million old magazines and catalogs, let your students make collages.

1. There will be four or five centers around the room with the students equally divided out in them.

2. Each group has four pieces of posterboard labeled with a different instrument family (strings, percussion, woodwind, brass). They also have a few old catalogs, scissors, and glue sticks.

3. The students find and cut out pictures of instruments from each family and glue them on the appropriate posterboard.

4. Put them on your walls for display.

This is a great hands-on lesson that helps students who need to see and do to learn.
