This is about a 20 minute lesson:

  1. I explained what a typewriter is and showed about 1.5 minutes of a YouTube video of a person typing on an old manual Olympus typewriter.
  2. We talked about the sounds it made, and then I showed a video clip of Leroy Anderson's "The Typewriter."
  3. I passed out rhythm sticks, and we read "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type" and "Giggle, Giggle, Quack" by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewis. We "typed" the notes and made all of the animal sounds.

It was simple, but I liked it as a sound exploration lesson. The students were enthralled with the typewriter.
