One of my favorite first day of music class activities that I use for PreK, K, and 1st grades uses the song, "I'm So Glad To Be Here!" (from Music K-8, Vol. 10, No. 1).
Before introducing the song, we practice each of the simple movements in the lyrics, then we do the movements with the song. The song's lyrics are so singable and easy to learn that by the second time the song is heard, many are singing along already. It's sort of an "instant song" that is really fun for the kids.
