My 5th and 6th graders are creating puppet shows to depict the life of one of the composers. Today I set up several different listening stations and turned them loose with the classical music CDs in order to choose which music they wanted to include in their puppet show. Although it would have sounded like chaos to anyone else, while I toured around the room, I actually heard kids saying stuff like, "Wow, this is really neat," and arguing within their group over which composition was best. When I played little snippets for them to listen, they hated it. Now, even the apathetic 6th graders are showing some slight signs of enthusiasm. Will wonders ever cease?
