I sing an old song with my kids called "Never Argue With A Bee" (I believe that it is in Holt/Reinhart Grade 2). I then read the book Berlioz the Bear. After we have read the book, we see that the encore that Berlioz plays is "Flight Of The Bumblebee." I ask the kids if they want to hear it. We always have lots of excitement to hear the music. As we are listening, I tell them that the bee sings the melody "I have come to save the day!" (the Underdog theme for those old enough to remember). I give the kids scarves, and we move to this wonderful song.

The next week they come in asking to do it again, and of course we do. I also play them a song from Macmillian Grade 1, called "Flight 76." It is the disco version of "Flight Of The Bumblebee." I do this with second grade in the spring. It is always a hit.
