Our fifth graders attend the Grand Rapids Symphony every year. The Symphony sends out a packet of composer/music/activities so we can prepare the students before they attend the concert. After the students learn about the composers (usually about five or six), I have them make a mobile of their favorite composer. They include six or more facts about their composer. I hang the mobiles from the ceiling and encourage the students to bring their parents in to look at them during parent conferences. I receive many creative mobiles, the kids learn from doing, and the fourth graders are in awe each time they come into class.
