To introduce rhythm instruments to young children, I use the tune of "Old McDonald Had A Farm," substituting words to say, "Old McDonald Had A Band...and in his band he had a drum...with a boom, boom here....." Rhythm is also taught as kids hit the drum on the word "boom" each time it appears. Other instruments can be introduced using the same method. This works for my class of autistic children, also.
