I adapted this idea I received from another teacher who teaches social studies. This game is similar to Jeopardy, but the information is randomly placed on the board and team members "swat that spot" of the correct answer.

This game is quite successful and can be adapted to any concept as a review game to reinforce what is being learned.

Materials Needed:
  • 3 X 5 foot poster board with six rows of squares and five columns. The squares must be big enough to tack on a 3 x 5-inch recipe card. I laminated this poster board and put Velcro tabs in each square.
  • 3 x 5 inch index cards with answers to questions you will be asking (similar to Jeopardy but with no headings for columns)
  • Process:
  • Students break up into two teams.
  • Each team sends one member to the "swat the spot" board, and that person holds a fly swatter.

After the question is read, they are to "swat that spot" that has the correct answer. The first correct swatter is the team that receives a point. If any hints are given from the other team members, a point is taken away.

I have used words from songs, notes, rhythms, and instrument pictures, have shown an instrument, and have played an instrument away from the students' view for questions.

This game works for all grade levels, as long as you adapt the difficulty level of the 3 x 5 answer cards.
