My school's PTA hosts a "Boo Hoo Coffee" in the media center on the first morning of school. It works really well to get those parents off to an "independent" year - and includes coffee and goodies. Before the morning PA announcement, the principal welcomes them, thanks them for sharing their children with us, gives miscellaneous information, and answers general questions, and then they're gone!
