I have a couple of suggestions for keeping students' seating arrangements orderly:

1. Put colored electrical tape on the floor in as many rows as you need. We even do this in the hallways of my school to teach kindergartners how to follow lines to get to different places in the school. (Plus it helps to teach them the rules of the hallway roads.)
2. Go to a neighborhood carpet store and ask for a donation of carpet squares. You can arrange these in any type of order you need: lines, small groups, etc. I find that my students all go for the few brightly colored squares that I have, more so than the beige/brown squares.
