Stompin' On The Green

by Teresa Jennings

While you could designate this as a performance piece for your St. Patrick's Day or spring celebrations, we see no reason to be so limiting! The quasi Celtic hip hop groove married to fiddles, guitars, penny whistle, and other acoustic instruments is simply delightful to listen to and to play.

Using the notes D, E, G, A, B, C and D' on recorder, it gives a little bit of a challenge with students who are further along with their recorder studies for the year. The tempo will certainly keep them focused, as will the intermittent rests in the melody line. But if they can pull it off, it will be most satisfying.

The stomps are meant to be either done with the whole foot or heels (we think heels are easier) and definitely while sitting. Doing so while standing might be too jarring for embouchures from bar 25 to the end when they are simultaneous. No bruised lips please.

If you want to download the piano/recorder score PDF to follow along, it is one of the downloadable extras available at our web site.
