Ten Little Bunnies

by Teresa Jennings

Here's a super-easy spring and/or Easter time tune for your youngest singers who also happen to be learning to count! Actually, make that learning to count backwards. From ten. Even so, it's catchy, short, and lots of fun to sing. To make it even more so, we have some built-in suggestions for actions the kids can do to reinforce the numbers they are learning. When they sing each of the numbers from ten back through five, they can hold up that number of fingers. When they get to four, they clap. They do not hold up fingers for four, three, or two because it's probably a little too fast for young ones to do that. But then they do hold up one finger for one.

The form of the tune is also easy. It's sung all the way from verse through chorus twice, then repeats the chorus once. Be sure kids take a nice big breath before the chorus each time if they can. If you need to let them stagger their breathing, that's fine.

Note: Be sure to share the pictures of the bunnies on the lyric page and on the cover of this issue with them. Can they count all ten? We are including a black and white version of the cover online for you to print out and invite students to color themselves. See below for details.
