Forever Friends

by Teresa Jennings

We suspect that this song is going to be popular with your students, particularly your girls, particularly your tweens and pre-tweens. Friendship can be a very big deal for this group, and we have all heard vows of friendship "forever." This song celebrates that lovely sentiment.

The recording is the best part of the song, and we highly recommend you play the full version for your students first. Sure, the pizzicato strings with the rock band is neat in a Pachelbel-ish sort of way. But the vocals are what's really fun, starting with the optional solo at the beginning. Our soloist is Celia Ellsworth, who captures that young pop star vibe beautifully, we think. If you wanted to, you could make the whole song a solo, but it's awfully fun to sing along with, and we wouldn't want to deprive anyone. So we invited everyone to join in at measure 17 when it gets nice and loud. The last line of the tune is an optional solo again, bringing it back down dynamically to where it began with the pizzicato strings. Very neat.

We would also like to suggest that you might be popular with your kids (particularly the previously mentioned kind), if you tell them they can get a copy of this song for themselves. At the risk of blatant advertising here, we do think that they would like this enough that we're willing to risk your good opinion of us. Just tell them to go to K8KidTunes.com and search for "Forever Friends." If they are so inclined, they can download it for 99 cents - with their parents' knowledge, approval, and assistance, of course.
