Valentine

by John Riggio

Simple and sophisticated, "Valentine" is a hip hop partner song that will grab your students' attention. The recording features a dual bass line on electric and acoustic basses and a tight drum groove. The rap section couldn't be easier. Just spell out "Valentine" three letters at a time, and say the word. Then at measure 13, we add electric and acoustic pianos, plus electric guitar to round out the sound and provide a more substantial tonal center for your part 2 singers. The sung part is very singable and repetitive, so even younger singers should have no problem learning it, especially if they sing along with our singers on the recording. Both parts come together at measure 21 to finish out the song. This is a perfect choice for Valentine's Day, focusing on friendship (instead of romance), so everyone of all ages can enjoy it.
