I Remember You

by Teresa Jennings

This poignant round is simple, elegant, and lovely. Only four phrases long, it's also easy enough for most students to sing. It's written in a range that should encourage singers to use their head voices, keeping a pure, clean tone.

You may note that we did not mark part 2 as optional this time. That's because it is necessary for the tune to be performed as a round. However, you could still do the piece in unison if that works better for you. But adding part 2 is a good way to introduce or reinforce part singing if you do use it.

One of the nicest parts of the accompaniment tracks on the recording for this song is the string trio. We feature Phil Palermo on violin, Mike Strauss on viola, and Dennis McCafferty on cello. If you have your own talented string players, you can certainly use this piece live. The piano part is very playable and deliberately stays out of the way of both the vocalists and the strings. The string parts are cued on the piano/vocal for your convenience if you wish to use it this way.

This song would be a good addition to a Memorial Day program. Of course, it would also work for Veterans Day (November 11), Patriot Day (September 11), or any occasion of remembrance, patriotic or otherwise.

(Note: Due to the simplicity and length of the song, we did not include a lyric sheet for this tune.)
