Mousie In The Snow

by Teresa Jennings

The first thing you hear on the recording for this tune is our young-at-heart drummer Dane getting into the spirit of it. He was also moved to add a few "Hey hey hey's" here and there as well, which we left in because we thought they were just fun.

Anyway - the tune is obviously for the younger crowd, though even our older singers participated with enthusiasm. The lyrics tell a wee bit of a story, but nothing too complicated. Singers get to add their own sound effects with the addition of mouse noises and/or claps, which are indicated on the music. As you hear, our singers decided that mice mostly squeak, though yours may have other ideas. All of these noises and claps are optional, including the noises at the end. If you do the ones at the end, use a conducted cut-off or fade (decrescendo) to stop.

For a performance, consider having a costumed star Mousie running around or dancing or just being cool. Have him wear winter garb such as a warm scarf and mittens, boots and a hat (though you don't want to obscure his mouse ears!). He can be a she if you like, but you'll probably want to adjust the lyrics.

Let others also be in mouse costumes for a "mouse chorus" and lots of added cuteness factor.
