Voccata #2 (Gloria)

by Teresa Jennings

Here's a chance for your older singers to show off a little! The subtitle of the tune (Gloria) is also the entire lyrical content, which makes it easier on the one hand, but not necessarily so on the other. Where the syllables fall in relation to the notes can be a little challenging, as our singers found out when learning this piece.

Useful as a warm-up, a teaching tool, or a performance piece, we think your singers will enjoy this one. Both parts are important, so neither are optional. Use it with lower, changing, or changed voices as well by having them sing it an octave lower.

The recording only uses piano as accompaniment, so playing this one live will work nicely. You may however prefer to allow your singers to try it a cappella! Alter the pitch or tempo for fun.

FYI: Voccata #1 was published in Music K-8, Volume 14, Number 3. ("Voccata" is a made-up cross between "toccata" and "vocal," in case you wondered.)
