I'm A People Person
by Teresa Jennings
If the reaction to this song in our recording session is any indication (and it usually is), your singers are going to have a blast with this one! For one thing, they really need to focus and listen to say all the words and stay with the beat, not to mention each other. At a snappy 156 bpm, it moves right along. But with such a happy and positive topic, it practically sings itself.
The orchestral accompaniment is deliberately light and bouncy and stays out of the way for the most part so that the spotlight remains on the singers. And though we encourage the use of our recorded background, the easy boom-chick piano part is likely playable to a capable pianist. Which means... you could actually do this piece even faster! However you do it, be sure kids enunciate as they go. This is a story song, sort of, and needs to be understood. Also make sure they use the air quotes at bar 15, and speak with an audible shrug at bar 18. Listen to our performers on the recording for inspiration.
Just in case you don't have a pianist and you want to practice (or perform) this at a slower tempo, we've got you covered. You will find an alternate version set at 130 bpm at our web site.
