Make A List
by Tom & Lynn Crowell
How many times does the average person make a list in life? Probably a lot! Sometimes people make mental lists, sometimes written lists, and sometimes typed lists on a computer or in an app. We make lists to remember things, or to show people the things we like. Lists also help us prioritize, and weigh the pros and cons. Lists are everywhere, so why not sing a song about them?
The boomy and bouncy bass synth in this song will get your students' attention quickly! The synth-driven verses open up to a guitar-infused chorus. Make sure your students incorporate this bounce and energy into the way they sing.
Note that there are pick-up notes on the "and" of beat three leading into the main parts of the verses. It's easy to be late on these and stumble into singing the verse lines. Keeping up the energy of the song will help anticipate those notes as will your cuing them.
Making lists can be a valuable life skill lesson. As an extension, have your students actually make a list before or after singing the song. You could also talk about the kinds of lists they use day to day – for homework, chores, or just for fun. If it seems okay to do, invite them to share their lists if they want.
