Clocks Back

by Teresa Jennings

Remember waaaay back last spring when we offered you a song called "Clocks Forward"? Well, here is its counterpart, "Clocks Back." And as with its predecessor, this one has a ticking clock throughout. Though this time, the beat is a good bit slower – downright relaxed, by comparison. (Extra hour of sleep, anyone?)

Accompanied by a small orchestra that includes strings, woodwinds, horn, and harpsichord, singers are asked to sing in a somewhat proper manner. The use of the polite "ahem" to start them off helps with this. Even so, allow them the exaggerated novelty of the downward slides when they sing "fall back." The rest of the song is quite easy and repetitious.

Note that it says "daylight saving time," not "daylight savings time" (with an "s"), because it's technically correct without it. However, it's so common to add the "s" these days, even some dictionaries are starting to acquiesce. Use whatever works best for you.
