Kids Around The World

by Teresa Jennings

As we usually do in an all-school revue, we provide at least one song that can be sung by your youngest students. For this revue, that song is "Kids Around The World," though it could easily be sung by older groups as well. It could also be used outside of the revue since it is non-specific for that purpose. It has a very sweet, very simple message: Kids just want to be kids. And as the revue suggests, no matter where they come from or where they live, this is one of the things they – we – all share. Whether you keep it that light or choose to go deeper with your program or even some of your students is up to you. In a world where even children are subjected to all kinds of suffering, it would do us all good to remember to have sympathy and compassion and even to take steps to help when we can.

The tune is a gentle one, and should be easy to learn. The beginning statements are indicated as a solo optionally. We have broken it into two different soloists (Emery Allen and Brooklyn McDaniel) on the recording, which you may choose to do as well. Everyone joins in at the pick-ups to measure 13 and stays in until the pick-ups to measure 25. Once again, the solo (Brooklyn again on the recording) is optional and the tune ends with everyone singing.
