This Is Where I Am

by Teresa Jennings

As we usually do in an all-school revue, we provide at least one song that can be sung by your youngest students. Since the revue is non-specific to a topic (unless you choose to make it otherwise), we have decided to let your little ones sing about themselves and their place in the world. Happily, this is also a song that can be used in a cross curricular way, teaching children to think of perspective, an abstract idea, to be sure. Mostly though, it would be just plain cute. You will note there are words in parentheses that can be substituted to make the song work better for you.

Arts and Crafts Extra! - As a special extension for this tune, artist Kristyn Johnson has created a template and instructions for making this neat layered booklet that identifies the many places a child can be at the same time. Besides showing how it could look when complete, Kristyn provides a blank template so you and your students can tailor the contents accordingly. You can also make it as simple or complex as you like, a point she covers as well. (For information on downloading this free craft activity, see the box on page 78.)
