Twinkle, Twinkle Fifty Stars

arr. Teresa Jennings

As we usually do in an all-school revue, we provide at least one song that can be sung by your youngest students. In this case, it seemed like a natural idea to do a patriotic-style arrangement of the song, "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," which no doubt every youngster knows by heart. Only in this version, instead of one little star, there are fifty of them! That way, kids can get a jump on their education about their country while singing about it. You could expand on the topic further, bringing it more across the curriculum. Talk about the fifty states and the fifty stars that represent them on our flag. In fact, be sure to have a flag nearby that you can show them as you have your discussion. If you do the song in performance, notably in the revue (though it truly would work any time you like), you could have your singers hold small flags to reinforce the message of the songs. Plus it would just be too cute. Little patriots always make the audience happy.
