March Mania

by John Riggio

Basketball! We're not allowed to use the name of the college basketball tournament everyone is familiar with (for legal reasons), but its name rhymes with "arch badness," and it'll be here before you know it! "March Mania" is a musical celebration which you can use as a prelude to or during the craziness that happens around this popular tournament every March.

While John wrote it to be sung, he also thought it would be cool to rap the verses. It turned out that one of our newest singers, Mariah, did such an outstanding job that it became the main version on the recording! Great job, Mariah! You can still hear the fully sung (unison) version as a web extra on MusicK8.com And in case you decide to have your own rapper(s) perform the verses, we have created a background track that has the singing at the choruses only. It's called "alternate accompaniment version" and you can also find it on our web site. (See the box on page 63 for details.)

The vocal rhythms might look a little intimidating (lots of 16th notes), but once your students hear it, it should all make sense. We've even got an electric piano playing the melody to boost their confidence.

With its synths and grooves, this is a tune you just have to use our recorded tracks with. They're insania!
