Thank You, Teachers, Thank You

by Mike Wilson

Here's a peppy and kinda goofy song to show appreciation to one of the most underappreciated professions in society today – teachers! As a teacher yourself, you're certainly aware of the struggles and stresses, as well as the desire to help and make a difference in the lives of your students, no matter what it takes.

This song is arranged and orchestrated in a pseudo reggae style. (What says "thank you" better than steel drums, right?) You can apply this song several different ways. If you sing it with the lyrics as is, you can use it – maybe in a convocation or assembly setting – to honor several or all the teachers in your school by having them stand while your choir sings their thanks to them. You could also change the lyrics if you'd like to honor a single teacher. Something like "Thank you, Mister Matthews," or "Thank you, Miss Rodriguez" works well because of the syntax. But you can get creative, even if it means singing the teacher's name out of time, or even shouting it. Use it however it works best for you.
