Bestest Mom

by John Riggio

This is a primary tune designed to say what we all know is true. Mom is the bestest mom ever! Appropriate for Mother's Day or any other day you want to honor moms, the words pretty much speak for themselves. It features a light swing style complete with walking bass line, arch top guitar chunks (eighth note chords), and vibes playing the melody. While it is easy to sing, the dotted rhythms might look intimidating to younger singers, so feel free to teach it by rote.

For performing live, well, you'll need moms present! Have performers bring a handkerchief for when they blow their noses in measure 20. The "boo hoo's" should be loud and exaggerated. Make sure the kiss on the last beat is also exaggerated and grand by having the singers place one hand over their mouths, then as they blow the kiss, the hand leaves the mouth and the arm extends up and out as they look at their moms. You could even let them do this with both hands. Our studio singers made the kiss sound and said "mwa!" for added effect, so you can do the same if you prefer. Make sure everyone smiles as they sing this. After all, it's for Mom!
