It's Our Time

by Teresa Jennings

This is a very positive, forward-looking type tune that would lend itself nicely to any graduation or promotion ceremony. Or just sing it out with gusto in the classroom! The pop hip hop beat is fun and familiar for kids, which means they are likely to not only catch on quickly, but also enjoy singing it. If you do use it in a ceremony situation, consider letting students do a halftime march or step around the stage, auditorium, or performance area. That would translate to two steps per measure at 88 beats per minute. Turn the recording nice and loud so that any physical separation or spreading out is not too problematic to singers as they step. There is also a suggestion on the music at the chorus (measure 25) to add offbeat claps. That means one clap per measure on beat 2 if you're counting in 2. Nice and easy and quite natural.

Though we probably didn't need to isolate the optional vocal part 2 due to its simplicity, we did it anyway, just in case. You will find details for accessing it on the chart on page 67.
