Question: ...they will have to be in a straight line. I like the idea of them passing the cups one particular way - think it will look neater, but I can't work out how I'm going to get the cups going back the other way.
Answer: I've always done The Cup Game in a circle. I have done it in programs this way, and it looks so nice when they get the pattern going and pass the cups to each other! One time, we invited some parents to join the circle and taught it to them - it brought a lot of smiles to kid and adult faces alike. Unless you are doing a different version, a circle should solve your problem.
