I have had a great time using the magnets designed for putting business cards on refrigerators. At office supply stores, you can buy a pack of blank magnet rectangles, each with one sticky side. I use them for lots of things, since I'm lucky to have a magnetized blackboard. The magnetic sheets are thin enough so that you can cut them to size or any shape you want.

These would stick nicely to the back of the animal zoo plates. The bigger the plate, the more of the magnet you would use. They also can be used for seasonal cutouts - attach leaves, pumpkins, snowflakes, etc. for decoration, or use as notes. Stick them to happy face stickers and then cut out shapes - make wonderful "noteheads." Use the magnets to temporarily hold down posters, word sheets, etc. that have been rolled up for a year.
