I think I'm going to do a bulletin board for the back-to-school nights with Oscar the Grouch in his garbage can that says, "Before you throw it away, let Oscar have a say." Then I would have lists of items we would like donated to the classroom, such as coffee cans with lids, oatmeal boxes, pie pans, hub caps, beanie babies, troll dolls, old costumes, clay pots, yarn, cardboard tubes, etc.
My other thought was to use The Grinch and his quote from the movie "One man's compost is another man's potpourri." On the opposite bulletin board (or a table set up in the classroom showing), have samples of homemade instruments and call it "Recycled Music."
