Old school and very simple costume idea: Brown paper grocery bags/sacks. Cut a slit up the front, turn them inside out (if they have printing on them), cut a neck hole and armholes - voila! a buckskin vest. Fringe the bottom if you wish, or paint Native American symbols on them.
